If you’re looking for tradition, charm, and small-town celebration done right, head to Southport. This year marks the 230th year of the town’s Independence Day festival—making it one of the oldest 4th of July celebrations in the country!
Here’s how Southport does the 4th:
•Patriotic Parade (July 4, 11:00 AM)
A beloved tradition featuring floats, bands, veterans groups, local organizations, and red-white-and-blue everything
Arrive early—this parade draws thousands, and the streets fill quickly
•Festival Activities Throughout the Day
Food vendors, live music, and plenty of family fun in historic downtown
The energy is unmatched—Southport truly comes alive on the 4th
•Fireworks Over the Water (July 4, 9:00 PM)
End the day with fireworks lighting up the Southport sky over the Cape Fear River
Pro tip: Roads will be closed from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM for the parade, so plan ahead. Free trolley service will be available around town on July 4 to help you navigate the festivities with ease.
